Hi Rikki,

I think one of the main things is getting a filter system/set up that works well for you and the pond and of course your maintenance program as some have more time than others for cleaning and messing around. Then of course there is matching it all together so that its pulling through the filters at a speed they can handle without giving clarity or filter issues.

I personally like a combination of K1 and BHM IMO (which is only a Muppet's opinion) it works a treat and can give you all you need and great water. One thing i do think we can get hung up on is this "clear water" thing as one of the first thing many say is my water is great its gin clear and although we do want to see our fish gin clear water is not always best for the fish what we want is "good" water so they can thrive in it.

There are a number of ways to set it up but this would depend on the size of the pond and set up,i take it your going to build a new pond and close this one down or ar...

If you had a blank piece of paper and could design/chose your own filter system which one would you go for?
The reason I ask is that I am thinking about changing mine which is only a year old simply because its lots of work to keep on top of and it needs to be updated to deal with very fine bits, its a four bay filteration system with a vortex 2X 20,000 ltr pumps one on the filters and the other on a stand alone skimmer, I am also going to fit a Shower to the system which hopefully I will be able to be use on the new system.

Thoughts greatly recieved.

Hi Andy, just waiting for a pm back from Pondy on a few bits but I think we shall be look at about 20.

As for time's i'll take a punt and say late morning, as it would be good to get accross the bridge before Lakeside shopping opens up and the M25 becomes grid locked

Yes my cover is on all year round mate as it does get a bit cold here as well and although doesn't look that pretty it does what it says on the tin

looks great mate thinking of doing something a long those lines and cover the shower 24/7 365 as were i live is open and it gets very windy.

Hi Lee,

I cover mine with 25mm polycarb and the shower is totally boxed in all four sides and didn't use the brackets although i know many do. I have two timbers at the back and the polycarb fits on that,i then screwed to the timber for the two sides that come out and to the front of the shower and then the front panel fixes to this as does the lid .

You will see in the pics that i used the end caps and these worked well to hook on to the shower at the from as well as a couple of screws to keep itsecure.

Hi Lee hope you are well.

I think a few of the lads have used polycarbonate sheeting, also think some of them use home made covers.

I have the Polycarb brackets on my showers that I recently purchased so will look at placing some form of Polycarb on it during the winter months. However I also have a DIY project on the go regarding a Bakki cover but I cant give you much more info on it until the pond is built and I can construct the showers in place before I take the final messurements.

I also have an aluminum case with all the "stuff" in and also a tool box which i have other potions and lotions in but have no idea how many but will have a look and let you know soon

I think we should all keep a good basic kit that wold allow us to once we have found the problem treat the pond and if needed the fish. So we should have a few pond treatments and i personally do not us any pre mixed "stuff" as i have found they can be a waste of time. So for me i would have PP,CT.MG&F, and depending what you like something for Flukes and a good set of scales.Then there would be some sedation and a would cleaner (HP) along with a good topical and some sealers. We of course will need some tweezers for pulling scales (also useful for feeling rough scales) scissors,forceps and the normal cotton buds,wipes and gloves.

I am sure i missed something though
