Good luck mate !! your on that slippery slope to the white coat and small room

Something to think of before all this starts :?

Feeding raises TDS,
Chemicals raise TDS,
Fish waste raises TDS,
Iron, salt, and calcium raise GH, and hence also raise TDS,
High Nitrates raise TDS.

Good luck in bringing it down buddy

Hi Jimbo,

The majority of fish from Japan are raised in soft water and some are very soft on a recent trip i think Mike measured some mud ponds and they where down very low under 50

Its not just the lowering its keeping on top of things as to start getting much lower an RO unit would be required and then as you are stripping all the minerals out from the water you have to be careful when you get lower as there is a chance that the KH will drop off and cause a PH crash if not monitored.

Hi Jimbo

Unless you go down the RO route your pond TDS is gonna be very much dependant on your supply.

Doesn't really matter it the calibration is spot on, you simply need to see what the difference betwen supply and pond is; Lack of water changes, too much c**p building up etc and the difference will increase.

- and if you ever add salt to the pond things will be screwed up TDS wise for eternity.

Just out of curiosity, was the water from the fridge cold? warm it up to 20C and see if that gives a different reading..

Dave
